2009 Miss Race City USA Scholarship Pageant

The Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce and the Race City Festival would like to announce the second annual Miss Race City USA Scholarship Pageant. On May 2, 2009, two young ladies from the state of North Carolina will be crowned. One between the ages of 13-16 years will hold the title of Race Teen Princess and one being between the ages of 17- 24 years will be crowned Miss Race City USA.

The areas of competition for the teen princess will include private interview, talent, physical fitness, evening wear and on stage question. Areas of competition for the Miss Race City title include private interview, talent, swimsuit, evening wear and onstage question. The winner of the Miss Race City title will receive a scholastic scholarship along with other prizes. The teen princess will receive a savings bond and other gifts.

The pageant will be held at 7:00 PM on May 2, 2009 at Mooresville High School, the Roland R. Morgan Auditorium. Applications are available at the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce or you may request an application by contacting missracecityusa@yahoo.com.

Mooresville will crown the 2009 Miss Race City USA, Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Mooresville High School, Roland R. Morgan Auditorium. Sponsored by the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce as an addition to the festivities of the Race City Festival the pageant will be a night to remember.

We are so excited that you are interested in participating and look forward to sharing in the festival excitement of the 2009 Miss Race City USA Scholarship Pageant! This year’s winner will experience exciting moments while traveling across North Carolina; taking part in festivals, parades, local charity events, community service events and many other activities. She will be recognized across the Carolinas representing the Race City Festival and Mooresville.

Interview
Style of Outfit:
Professional looking Business Suit, Pant Suit or Dress
Judging Criteria:
Speaking ability, professionalism, poise, posture, grooming, attire and overall appearance.
Interview Style:
Panel style judging with 5 judges. Contestant will be standing behind a podium
Time Length:
Queen – 8 Minutes
Teen Princess – 5 Minutes
Scoring: Teen Princess–50%
Queen (Miss)–40%
Location:
Mooresville – South Iredell Chamber of Commerce
Times:
Teen Princess - Interviews will begin at 10:00 with Queen interviews to follow.


Talent
Attire:
Based on Talent
Judging Criteria:
Skill, Execution, Stage Presence, Difficulty and Costume
Time Limit:
2 and half minutes (Points will be deducted if exceeded)
Scoring: Teen Princess –30%
Queen (Miss) – 30%


Evening Gown
Attire:
Age appropriate, formal, floor length gown. Beading, rhinestones, sequins are allowed
Judging Criteria:
Gracefulness, poise, posture, speaking ability, overall appearance
Scoring: Teen Princess – 10%
Queen (Miss) – 15%


Swimwear / Physical Fitness Wear
Attire:
Queen: Suit of Choice, one or two piece solid or patterned suits with appropriate shoes.
Teen Princess: Athletic / Physical Fitness wear with tennis shoes. (no swim wear)
Judging Criteria:
Evaluation of physical fitness, poise, confidence, overall appearance
Scoring: Teen Princess - 10%
Queen (Miss) - 15%


Opening Number
Attire:
Racing Themed; Black & White Checker, Red, Green or Yellow. Be creative. This is not judged but is required.


OPTIONAL AREA OF COMPETITION

Photogenic:
Style of Photo: Black & White or Color, Natural or Retouched. May be professional or amateur. Photos MUST be brought to Pageant Rehearsal with contestants name on the back of each photo. Photos should be a more recent photo of contestant. Photos WILL be returned the night of the
pageant. You may enter more than one photo with a limit of 3 photos. Photo Size: 5x7 or 8x10 (Each photo $10.00 with a maximum of 3 photos)

Judging Criteria: Photogenic appeal, beauty, warmth & personality projection, photo quality and clarity.

Scoring: Top photo score wins in each age division. If submitting more than one photo, the average of the photos will result in the total score for that contestant. Score for separate prize only.

Important Pageant Information

Saturday, April 18th - Applications, Ads, Community Service Paper, Headshot photo & entry fees must be received.

Friday, May 1st – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Mandatory Rehearsal. Bring any shoes that you would like to practice in on-stage.

Saturday, May 2nd

10:00 am – Teen Interviews begin at the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce Queen Interviews to follow
5 pm – Dressing Room Opens
6:30 pm – Must be dressed and ready
7:00 pm – Pageant begins
After Pageant – Coronation Reception after the Pageant

Sunday – May 2
Time & Location TBA – New Queens brunch & Queens contract signing


Each contestant MUST submit a headshot photograph (4x6, 5x7 or 8x10) via mail or email for the newspaper, website and program book. This photo will not be judged and must be received along with application.

If you are competing in the optional photogenic competition, you must submit separate photograph(s) for the competition. Pictures will be returned the night of the pageant.

All modeling is straight – T

Contestants must be ready when emcee calls their name.

You will be allowed one person backstage (i.e. mother, hairdresser, make-up artist)

No Men allowed backstage.

Contestant Ad Sales Guidelines

AD SALES

Do you have friends, family or business owners who would like to show their support for you? If so, have your friends, family and business owners express their support for you in the Official Miss Race City USA Pageant Program Book. The contestant from either the Queen or Teen division who raises the highest dollar amount in ad sales will be receive an award. The winner for the ad sales award must sell a minimum of 4 (four) full page ads for the program book. The deadline for ad sales is April 18th and if emailed must be in JPEG format.
Program Book Size will be 8.5 x 11

Ad Prices are as follows:
1/4 page - $25.00
½ page - $50.00
Full page - $100.00

Highest Ad Sales will receive an award.


The 2009 Miss Race City USA is under contract from the day she is crowned until she crowns her successor. The Queen cannot compete in any other pageants throughout her reign. She can never have been married, or pregnant. You may request a copy of the Queens contract prior to entering the pageant. A contract will be signed by the new Queen on Sunday, May 3rd. The first official appearance for the 2009 Race USA City Queen & Princess will be with Mayor Bill Thunberg; Saturday, May 16th at the Race City Festival.

The parents or guardians of the contestant or the contestant themselves, for and in consideration of the participation in this Pageant do hereby release and forever discharge the directors and representative of the Miss Race City USA Scholarship Pageant and Mooresville – South Iredell Chamber of Commerce from any and every right, claim, or demand which may arise in our favor against said parties, on account of ordinary negligence connected with or growing out of the operation and conduct of the pageant. This release is intended to cover acts and omissions of ordinary negligence toward the contestants in this pageant and any damages, loss, theft or accidents that may occur at the pageant or in transportation to and from the pageant or appearances.

I give permission for my child’s or my picture or likeness and name to be used in press and on the pageant website for the purpose of promotion or advertising.

I understand that there will be a $30.00 Service Charge on all returned checks.
